Alpha Pokemon in PokeMMO
Alphas are oversized wild Pokemon, recognizable by their red outline in battle and their distinctive cry. Tougher than regular encounters, they guarantee two perfect IVs and their hidden ability on capture. Here is how to find and catch them.
Where and when they spawn
- Alphas appear during Alpha swarms tied to the in-game time cycle: a PokeMMO day lasts 6 real hours, so there are 4 spawn windows per real day, at varying times.
- Each swarm lasts 75 minutes and its location is shown on the world map: the whole server converges on the same spot.
- In game, an Alpha is easy to spot: it is much larger than normal, including as a follower after capture.
The battle: harder than it looks
- As your capture attempts pile up, the Alpha can fill with wild might: all of its stats then increase drastically mid-battle. Do not drag the fight out.
- If your team faints, you can retry the battle. If you flee (or are forced out), the spawn takes 2 minutes to reappear.
- Typical team: a bulky False Swipe user to get it to 1 HP, a status setter (Spore, Hypnosis, Paralysis), and a real attacker as backup if the stats climb too high.
What an Alpha gives you
| 2 perfect IVs | Two randomly chosen 31 IVs, guaranteed on capture. A solid breeding base. |
| Hidden ability | The Alpha comes with its hidden ability, changeable later with an Ability Pill. |
| EXP Candies | Experience candies on capture. Defeating it without catching gives nothing. |
| GTL value | Well-statted Alphas sell high on the GTL, especially competitive species. |
Breeding and shiny Alphas
- To pass the Alpha attribute down, both parents must be Alpha. A single Alpha parent is not enough.
- A shiny Alpha is one of the most prestigious catches in the game, and it is worth 75 points in the Shiny Wars 2026, more than any non-legendary shiny.
- Stock your balls in advance: losing a shiny Alpha because you ran out of Poke Balls is the classic hunter nightmare.
