PokeMMO has locked in the dates for the 3rd annual Shiny Wars, the game's biggest yearly shiny hunting competition: it runs from August 1 (00:00 UTC) to August 28, 2026 (23:59 UTC).
The concept: teams of 25 to 30 players compete for a month to catch the most shinies. Every OT shiny caught during the event is recorded automatically, and this year your score is credited the moment you catch (no more holding on to your catches until the end).
Key facts
- Registration runs July 23-29 on the official forum: team name, an elected leader, 25 to 30 players, one character per player.
- A +10% wild shiny boost for everyone during the event, registered or not (wild encounters only: no eggs, fossils or Game Corner).
- Seasons will rotate every 7 days (Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring) throughout the event, shaking up hunting spots every week.
- New exclusive prizes for the top teams.
Scoring
Each shiny earns points based on its rarity group (a whole evolution line is worth the same score): from 3 points (Tier 7) up to 50 points (Tier 0). Outside the chart: 75 points for a shiny Alpha and 200 points for a Legendary or Mythical. Bonuses: +20 points for a Secret Shiny, +10 for a Safari catch; a hatched egg counts as 35 points or the species' tier value, whichever is higher. Shinies bred from two shiny parents don't count.
An encounter overhaul before the event
This may be the real headline: an update is expected about a week before kickoff (around July 24-25) with a comprehensive overhaul of encounter tables, new features to complete the Pokedex and easier access to endgame raids. The tier chart will be published after that update ships. The wiki's Pokedex data will be refreshed right after.
Until then, prep your catching crews (False Swipe, status moves, a healthy Poke Ball stock) and scout your spots in the locations guide.
